Located on the iconic Pacific Coast Highway, across the street from the world-famous Surfrider beach, The Surfrider is a modern California Beach House, inspired by the picturesque Malibu landscape and rich heritage of California surf culture. Personifying Malibu’s historic beach-town community, the complete redesign of the original 1950s-era motel has transformed The Surfrider into a contemporary boutique hotel.
We where asked to use the natural landscape as our concept for all branding and colour palettes to be used. The sheer mountain behind the Surfrider fascinated us which lead us into researching the topography of the area and its decent from mountain to ocean depths. We used this topography as a emboss and pattern on all collateral, on some elements its just the texture that you feel others its an abstract pattern. The colours are matched to the sunsets from the location the local botanicals growing on the mountain that is the backyard of the hotel.
